Find Relief from Dry Eye

If your eyes are dry, irritated, scratchy, and blurry, you may think you haven’t gotten enough sleep, but it could be chronic dry eye.

Dry eye occurs when your eyes don’t produce enough tears or your tears are of poor quality. This can be caused by your environment, certain eye conditions, or a disruption with your tear film. Dry eye can be uncomfortable and hard to complete your daily tasks without rubbing your eyes for relief.

At Focus Optical, we offer innovative dry eye therapy like FDA-approved OptiLIGHT by Lumenis. Talk to our team about your dry eye symptoms, and let us find a treatment plan for you.

Common Dry Eye Symptoms

Dry eye can sometimes feel like a case of bad allergies, but it’s a chronic condition that can come and go. If you are experiencing the following persistent symptoms, visit us for an eye exam as soon as possible:

  • Redness
  • Stinging, scratching, or burning
  • Light sensitivity
  • Watery eyes
  • Mucus near the eye
  • Blurry vision

How IPL Works to Treat Dry Eye

A common treatment option for dry eye is intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy. IPL uses scattered wavelengths of light to penetrate the second layer of skin.

These wavelengths also create heat, which is helpful in treating a dry eye condition called meibomian gland dysfunction. Meibomian gland dysfunction occurs when the meibomian glands near the eyelids don’t produce enough oil, so IPL can help stimulate the glands and help the oil flow back into the eye.

OptiLIGHT by Lumenis for Dry Eye

OptiLIGHT by Lumenis is a light-based, noninvasive treatment done in the area below the eyes to manage dry eye. The first and only IPL FDA-approved for dry eye management.

The treatment is safe, gentle, and is backed by more than 20 clinical studies.

OptiLIGHT uses precise pulses of light to reduce the inflammation that is typically associated with dry eye disease, improve tear break-up time, and increase meibomian gland functionality.

Additional Dry Eye Treatments

We also offer other treatments that can be used independently or with OptiLIGHT therapy. Multiple treatment options may need to be combined depending on the severity of your dry eye symptoms.

Prescription Eye Drops

Eye drops provide instant moisture back into the eye and can soothe your symptoms throughout the day. Prescription eye drops contain medications to help heal the eyes and stimulate tear production. Over-the-counter eye drops (artificial tears) don’t contain medication but can add moisture to your eyes and provide some relief.

Omega-3s, found in fish oil, some plant sources, and supplements, can relieve dry eye symptoms. Omega-3s can help improve the meibomian glands that produce the oil your tears need to keep your eyes healthy and comfortable.

Eyelid sprays and wipes can help remove debris and bacteria from the eyelid’s surface, which can contribute to dry eye. Removing eyelid debris and keeping the area clean can help prevent infection and improve dry eye symptoms.
